Installing a boiler is not the same job as fitting one. The unit on the wall is maybe 40% of what determines how long it lasts. The other 60% is what happens to the system around it, and that's where most installations quietly fail.

Combi, system or regular, which is right for you

Combi boilers suit most 1–3 bedroom homes with 1–2 bathrooms; they take cold water from the mains and heat it on demand, no cylinder, no tank. System boilers feed an unvented cylinder and suit larger homes (3+ bathrooms) where multiple taps and showers might run simultaneously.

Regular (heat-only) boilers work with a tank in the loft and a hot water cylinder, traditionally found in older properties, sometimes worth keeping, sometimes worth converting. We assess and recommend based on your incoming mains pressure, hot water usage pattern, property size and budget.

What a proper installation includes

Pre-install: chemical flush or full power flush, gas pipework upsize if required (most older properties need 22mm to the boiler, not 15mm), filter installation (magnetic filter is a manufacturer requirement now for warranty), condensate route to a frost-proof termination, plume kit if neighbour proximity demands it. Install: boiler hung to manufacturer spec, gas tightness test, system pressurisation, expansion vessel pre-charge, isolation valves on every connection.

Commissioning: benchmark book filled in, flue gas analysis, full cycle test, hot water flow test, controls paired. Registration: boiler registered online with the manufacturer within 30 days to activate the full warranty.

New boiler installs are priced from £1,950 + VAT, with the final figure depending on boiler choice, conversion complexity and any system upgrades needed. The ECO4 grant scheme may cover the full install for qualifying low-income households or those on certain benefits, and we'll tell you straight whether you qualify and handle the paperwork if you do.
